Art of Healthy Living Advent Calendar – Day 14

When we’re caught up in the hecticness of day to day life it’s all too easy to lose sight of the important stuff. For example, let’s remind ourselves of the saying:

‘The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence’

We all do it, don’t we? Compare ourselves to others and think just how perfect their lives our in comparison to our own. Mrs Jones down the street has better behaved children, or that new secretary at work has better hair, or that family over there have a better car, it just goes on and on and on. And to make matters worse, now people are flaunting their amazing lives all over social media too – just to rub it in!

But, we all know deep down that that’s not a true reflection of how people lead their lives. I mean come on, who has picture perfect meals all the time? Who manages to work out without getting a sweat on? And who has that many events to attend every single day?

No one, that’s who, because it is not real!

Anyway, I digress, the point I’m trying to make is that rather than comparing yourself to the very fake reality of other people, try taking a moment to look at your own situation and appreciate what it is you already have.

For day 14 of our advent calendar we want you to write down 3 things you are grateful for. It could be something that has happened to you; an opportunity that has resulted in you managing to achieve something, it could be a particular person or people that make you happy, or it could be that you are grateful for being in good health. Whatever it is you are grateful for, jot it down and keep it somewhere safe, ready for you to re-read whenever you start to feel as though everyone else is better off than you!

Remember to check back tomorrow to see what’s behind door 15 of the Art of Healthy Living Advent Calendar.
