How to Make Moving a Less Stressful Experience

Apart from being extremely exhausting, moving house represents one of the major changes in a person’s life. Not only do you worry about getting everything ready for the big day, but you may also feel overwhelmed by feelings of uneasiness and anxiety, because you’re leaving your home and venturing into the unknown. All of this can be quite stressful, often overshadowing the feelings of joy and excitement and preventing you from looking forward to this positive change. Thus, it’s important that you try to stay calm and collected, embrace the change and enjoy this exciting period of your life. Read through these 6 tips to help make your move a less stressful experience:

1. Start Planning Ahead

Moving at the last minute isn’t really a matter of choice – sometimes you’re simply forced to act fast. However, if this isn’t the case with you, you should take your time and start preparing for your move as early as possible. This way, you’ll avoid all the pressure and stress and have everything prepared for your household move on time. You will be able to remain relaxed and take one step at the time.

2. Create A Plan

By creating a plan for your move, you will stay organised and efficient, not worrying about what you might have forgotten. You can make a list all the tasks and duties you need to complete and create a rough timeline for your move. When creating a plan and checklist, you shouldn’t schedule dozens of tasks for a single day. Instead, try to create a balanced schedule, giving yourself enough time to complete your tasks stress-free.

3. Declutter And De-Stress

When you start packing, you may come across a lot of items that you don’t really need and don’t know what to do with. This can create a chaotic atmosphere and you can easily get overwhelmed by all those items and anxiety. Therefore, before you start packing, you should declutter your home and eliminate all the unnecessary or broken items. Everything that you don’t want to take to your new home should be set aside. Be realistic about your belongings – if you haven’t used a certain item in a while, you probably won’t use it in the future either. You might find it strangely purifying to get rid of all those items. If there’s something you wish to keep, but don’t really know where to put it, you should consider renting a temporary storage unit for such items.

4. Seek Professional Help

While packing with your friends can be fun (and there’s no reason why you can’t do it), you might find it more efficient if you hire professional movers. You can still ask your friends to help you with smaller tasks, while leaving the moving process to a Transport Executive company. A great way to relive stress and avoid dealing with different companies is to find a single agency that provides different services. For example, I have used professional removalists in Brisbane in the past, and they provided me with both storing and moving services. If you hire such a company, you’ll be able to cut your expenses as well as avoiding dealing with too many people.

5. Take Care Of Yourself

Taking care of yourself and your needs is one of the most important items on the moving list. This is an exhausting process, so it’s of the utmost importance that you get enough quality sleep and eat healthy. Remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Otherwise, you’ll feel exhausted all the time, not being able to pack or even think properly. In addition, you should treat yourself and your family to a nice dinner, a night out or a family picnic. It’s important that you all have fun while moving in order to look forward to your new home rather than keep stressing about packing.

6. Make Packing Fun

Instead of seeing packing as just another tedious task, you should find a way to make it fun and exciting. You can turn it into a fun family activity or play your favourite music. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy your last moments spent in your old home and reminisce about your family memories that you’ve made there.

Moving doesn’t have to be stressful and exhausting. With the right approach, you’ll be able to relieve stress, pack efficiently and have fun doing it.
