Resolutions for 2016 #30

In 2016 we will…

Believe in ourselves.

Self belief is arguably one of the most difficult things a human can learn to do. For me, I would say my own self belief has very much grown stronger with age. Where in my youth I may have felt less confident and more concerned about what other people think of me, now in my thirties I feel more self assured and confident of who I am as a person than I ever have. That doesn’t mean I don’t still have moments of negativity, niggling feelings of doubt and uncertainties about new projects I take on, but what I have learned to do is to turn the negative into a positive.

If you struggle to believe in yourself it’s worth reminding yourself of the following:

  • Ignore other people’s negativity – If a friend puts you down, tells you you’re no good or that you will fail at something, then that is not a friend worth having. A true friend will encourage, support and ultimately be pleased for you, not matter what.
  • Nobody’s perfect – Be realistic with your goals and don’t strive for perfection, because you’ll only set yourself up for a failure and that will have a massive impact on your self belief. Aim small and reward yourself with every goal you achieve. Little steps make a big difference in the long run.
  • You’re great – Remind yourself of just how fantastic you are by looking into the mirror each morning and telling yourself. Some people swear by the power of their own mantra to help build up self confidence and self belief.
  • If at first you don’t succeed… – Try, try and try again. As Albert Einstein famously quoted, “You never fail until you stop trying”, so don’t let yourself be the reason for giving up.

Take the positive steps to self belief in 2016 and you’ll achieve anything you set your mind too 🙂
