A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Astrid at a beauty and wellbeing open evening held at my local beauty salon, Time To Be Me. Astrid is a professional advisor and coach in wellbeing and nutrition and had prepared some tasty samples using her Beautysané products – the crème brulee was to die for! My top tips for a healthier you!
Replace white flour with whole-wheat flour
Whole-wheat flour contains more fibre than white flour and this slows down the rate at which the body absorbs the carbohydrates. Put simply, this will leave you feeling fuller for longer and should therefore stop you eating more than you need. It also has the added benefit of containing more vitamins and minerals than white flour.
Just getting out in the fresh air for 30 minutes a day will work wonders for both your mental and physical health. 30 minutes is the ideal length of time, but even doing some of your daily chores, such as vacuuming, cleaning or washing your windows can count as part of your daily exercise plan.

That sitting for 30 minutes a day, instead of walking, can cause weight gain of up to 1 kg per year!
Being thirsty and dehydrated can actually be mistaken for feelings of hunger and all too often people will eat when all they really needed to do was drink a glass of water. Before reaching for your favourite snack, try having a drink, waiting a few minutes and then reassess whether you are hungry or not. You will know very quickly if you were thirsty or if it was really a desire to eat.
Avoid fruit juices, sodas and other sugary drinks. These can very quickly increase your daily calorie intake and unless you do enough physical activity to balance this extra intake out, you will put on weight. Your waistline will expand and bloat, fat will store on your hips and you won’t be doing any favours to your teeth either.
Record weight loss
When we go on a diet, many of us can reach a point where we start to lose motivation. One way of helping prevent this is by writing down your weight loss on a calendar. This will give you a visual reminder of how well you have done and will give you a mental boost, which should be enough to kick start your motivation, increase your confidence and self belief, and encourage you to persevere with your goal.
The ‘extras’ are a part of life and what kind of a life is one that doesn’t include those special treats every once in a while. Occasional deviations are not fattening. It is the daily extras, for example fries for lunch, a chocolate bar every night, that are fatal! Remember: the key to a balanced diet is everything in moderation.
