4 Natural Ways to Relieve Anxiety in College

College life can be really fun, but it can also be stressful. Being thrust into a completely new environment brings a lot of pressure to college students. Many suffer from trying to juggle their studies, extracurricular activities, as well as their social life.

A significant number of college students admit to being stressed and some are even suffering from depression and anxiety. While there is nothing wrong with taking prescribed medicines, some want to relieve themselves of anxiety by doing it in a more natural way. If you are one of those people, follow the tips below so that your college life will have less stress and anxiety.

Get Enough Sleep

While it seems inevitable that your college life will have some sleepless nights, maybe due to deadlines and such, you need to make sure that you are really getting enough rest. If you didn’t know already, not having enough sleep can put your body at risk of suffering from serious diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. When you don’t have enough sleep, your body is likely to feel sluggish and you won’t be as clear-headed. It can impair your reasoning ability and even memory skills, which can cause you anxiety in your studies. Try to ensure that you sleep before midnight, during usual resting hours.

Make Sure You Have Enough Emotional Support

While some people are gifted with the ability to adjust naturally to the changes in their lives, there are those who have difficulty doing so. In order to lessen your anxiety, make sure that you have family or friends who will be there to support you. You want someone you can vent your problems on. Always open the line of communication with your best friend or a trusted family member so that you know that no matter what happens in your life, you have someone who fully supports you.

Exercise And Eat Right

You don’t need to spend two hours at the gym every day to get good exercise. Even just 20 minutes a day can help to relieve symptoms of stress. If you don’t like the gym, have a go at jogging or cycling around your campus, whichever you’re more comfortable with. Take a friend with you so it will feel less like a task and more like a fun activity. Also, make sure you are eating the right diet. One of the things that you may have to cut back on is excessive caffeine, instead, incorporate more vegetables and fruits into your diet.

Look For Ways That Will Help You Calm Down

Find something that you can do to calm you down in moments when you feel extremely stressed or anxious. It may be something as simple as taking deep breaths, holding a stress ball or doing yoga. Some people rely on using essential oils as the aroma can help them calm down. Oils can even be used to relieve some physical pains such as headaches and muscle pain. You can check out some of these oils on Canabidol and find the one that will be most useful to you.
