5 Tips For Staying Healthy This Summer

The warm weather is the best indicator of summer. The long-awaited season has most people at home, especially students; this gives you a chance to engage in activities, such as sports and beach trips. While your mind focuses on these preparations, remember that health should also be a priority. A new season calls for a routine change, from the way you dress to your diet and exercise. When the weather starts to warm up, your body becomes more vulnerable to diseases due to the change. Here are ways to stay healthy this summer.

1. Hydrate

With the summer heat and bee-hive of activities, you can’t afford to stay without hydrating. It’s easy to get dehydrated, unlike during winter. You end up experiencing issues such as dry skin and constipation; take immediate constipation relief if this happens. Aim at drinking more than the usual eight glasses of water daily. If drinking water has always been challenging for you, get creative; purchase an attractive water bottle and always keep it close by. Add lime slices, mint leaves, or frozen berries to make it more palatable.

2. Wear Sunscreen

Your skin is your first protection against the harsh UV rays during summer; you should, therefore, ensure that you safeguard it at all costs. Wear sunscreen daily and routinely whenever you’re outdoors, whether it’s hot or not. Purchase sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 for adequate protection. If possible, get one that is water-proof to protect you while out surfing in the open waters. Similarly, protect your lips with balm containing SPF.

3. Be Active

While summer is known for its fun activities, not everyone is big on partaking in them, especially under the sun. Being outdoors doesn’t always mean you’re active; you need to be present in the activities. For some, summer means being indoors, sleeping, watching movies, or playing video games. Although these are fun ways to spend time, it’s necessary to move your body. Go for walks early in the morning or late afternoon when the sun is friendly, run, exercise, or engage in games.

4. Watch Your Diet

Among the things you need to change during summer is your diet; fortunately, summer comes with seasonal vegetables and fruits to give you essential nutrition for your body requirements. Ensure you’re getting a balanced diet containing vitamins for strong immunity, proteins to repair worn-out cells due to activity, and carbs to replenish energy reserves. Avoid spicy foods; during this season, heat increases acidity levels, wreaking havoc on your stomach.

5. Rest

With the entire family home, including siblings and favourite cousins, there’s a lot of catching up to do. During these moments, time passes by real quick, and you can’t tell when it’s already past bedtime. Rest is essential, especially after a long tiring day; ensure you get 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily and remember to practice good sleep hygiene.

Your well-being is essential for you to keep enjoying the summer; otherwise, you’ll miss out on a lot. Take care of all health aspects, both physical and mental, and boost your brain health. Engage with family, eat well, partake in activities, protect your skin, and remember to keep hydrating.
