May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth and whilst I'm May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth and whilst I'm always a little skeptical of this whole 'named' months and weeks thing, I do think it is important to help shine a spotlight on things like this. Especially when it's something as crucial as our #mentalhealthHow we look after our mental health is very much a personal thing. There's no one size fits all approach and to some extent it can be a bit trial and error to find the things that support good mental health for you.I took some time out recently to have a think of the things that help me and there were 3 that stood out the most. Can you guess what they might be? I'll give you a clue.... it's 3 things that all begin with the letter WIf you'd like to find out what they are, you'll need to have a read of my latest blogpost - https://artofhealthyliving.com/3-things-that-help-my-mental-health/ I'll also pop the link in a story to make it more clickable and accessible.I'd also like to take this opportunity to invite you to think about your own mental health and to reflect on the things that help you. I'd love to know what they are, so please share them if you'd like to.Our mind can take us to some pretty dark places at times. But if we can learn to treat it with kindness, to recognise when it's out of whack, to know the signs it needs help, as well as knowing what help we can give it, or even if it needs more than the help we can give. Then we are on the path to good mental health.Mental health fluctuates and requires just as much attention and care as our physical health. What makes it harder is that you can't see it. But my god you can deffo feel it! Look out for the signs, learn what you need to thrive, and above all else look after yourself 🩷
Hands up if you're fed up with all this blinking r Hands up if you're fed up with all this blinking rain 🙋‍♀️My latest post explores 10 essential items of run kit for wet weather trail running. Because let's face it, if we only ran on sunny days in the UK we'd never run, right?!?Personally, I love #running in the rain. Sure, it makes it harder to get out the door and actually do the run, but once you're out there, I dunno it just somehow makes it feel more of an achievement doing it in the rain somehow. And maybe it's me channeling my inner child - all that slip sliding on mud, splashing through puddles, and getting soaked to the knicks - #trailrunning in the rain really is a bit of me!Plus, once you're wet, you're wet. So, what's a bit more wet, I figure. It's time to embrace this rainy UK weather and get on out there and #run those trails. And these 10 pieces of kit should help you get started and maybe even a little bit dry....Go check it out - https://artofhealthyliving.com/10-essential-items-of-run-kit-for-wet-weather-trail-running/
Let's talk blisters...Having recently walked the Let's talk blisters...Having recently walked the second half of the South Downs Way (Amberley – Eastbourne, 54 miles in 2 days!) I know firsthand what it’s like to get #blisters. And let me tell you, it’s very, VERY painful.I’m a regular #walker and #trailrunner, not often that kind of mileage I grant you, but I’m out every single day none the less, so I thought my feet could handle it. I thought they'd toughened up.But no.Clearly not.My heels have never been so flappy and oozy and sore. It was utter carnage when I took off my socks. To the point that when I pulled off the blister plaster in the bath, I wasn't sure what was skin and what was plaster 🤢With a big 3-day hiking adventure in Italy coming up in June I need to completely get to grips with how to prevent blisters when #hiking long distances if I don’t want my feet to be in literal shreds. Especially as it's feet out season - no one needs to be looking at my gnarly grippers 🦶🦶So I've put together my 10 top tips for blister prevention in my latest blogpost (link in bio as per usual my lovelies) most of which I tried out on a 25 mile incredibly rainy walk from Winchester to Petersfield last weekend. And I'm pleased to report that it worked! No new blistersPop on over and have a read and don't worry... I haven't included any gross pictures of my manky feet 🤣
It seems as though everywhere you turn on social m It seems as though everywhere you turn on social media at the moment you're faced with pictures of people using #icebathsEver since that Wim Hoff TV series a couple of years back and a few celeb influencers raving about them, we've all wanted to have a go.But what's the deal? Can immersing ourselves in a bath of freezing cold water really be that good for us?Our latest article from @spartanicebath answers these questions by exploring 5 proven health benefits of ice baths. And if you've ever fancied having a go yourself head on over to the link in my bio for a read of the article because there might be a cheeky little discount code in there for you as well 😉
Had a trip down memory lane at the weekend when I Had a trip down memory lane at the weekend when I went to watch my son's football match. I knew it was roughly in the area where I grew up when I was younger, but turns out it was on the playing field I used to walk across to get to school 🥰Got to see my old primary school, my old house, and then had lunch in the village pub @callevaarms.silchesterLoved showing the family the places that I'd grown up with and telling them some of my memories. Absolutely loved living there, probs my favourite of all the places I've lived and definitely where my love of the #forest comes from. Such a fab #nostalgic weekend.
54 miles in 2 days!Such an amazing couple of day 54 miles in 2 days!Such an amazing couple of days walking half of the #southdownsway with this fab bunch. Amberley to Eastbourne with the bester weather, the funniest chat, all the baby animals, and a tonne of great memories. Can't say I loved every minute of it, and my feet are in absolute blistery bits but my god it was brilliant. The longest distance I have ever walked. 30 miles on day 1!!! I feel proud at what I have achieved and also a lot more knowledgeable and prepared for #hiking the #granparadiso in Italy in the summer.Today you will mostly find me feet up, scoffing choccy eggs 🥚 Happy Easter everyone xx
