When I woke up one morning about 3 years ago absol When I woke up one morning about 3 years ago absolutely drenched in sweat, I put it down to the hot weather and didn’t think much more of it. But when this continued night after night, despite the weather cooling down, I realised something else was going on.

Turns out, that what I was experiencing were night sweats and they were my very unwelcome introduction to the #perimenopause.

My latest post (link in bio) talks about my journey into the perimenopause and I discover the awesome @dagsmejan_sleepwear range of cooling #sleepwear that is quite literally a dream come true for hot, sweaty, flushed, menopausal women like me 🥵

HRT is now taking the edge off, however I am also making lifestyle tweaks to polish off the rough edges. I am now caffeine free, I take a daily supplement, and the nights I wear my gorgeously soft and lightweight Dagsmejan #sleep playsuit I am also now having a much more comfortable night's sleep. No more wet sheets 🙆‍♀️

Find out more by clicking on the link in my bio ✌️
TIME OUT . I've been a bit quiet on here recently. TIME OUT
.
I've been a bit quiet on here recently. It's been 100% deliberate. You see I've been having a bit of a wobble. Frustrating AF not gonna lie cos I was totally convinced the #HRT was doing its thing and now I'm not so sure 🤔
.
For the past 2 weeks I've woken up with a nauseous feeling (I'm not preggers before you ask!) deep in the pit of my stomach, a knotty, twisting, horrible anxious feeling that I know so well. And it hangs around until about lunchtime, then starts to ebb away, every now and again rising up, depending on what I'm doing or who I'm seeing.
.
My tactic of how to deal with it has been to stay off of social media, to do a @calm meditation session every day, and to just generally stay on the down low a bit, hoping that it will pass. I'm also starting to wonder whether caffeine is playing a part in this - I only ever have 2 cups of coffee a day, and only ever in the morning, but I'm going to switch over to decaf and see if that makes a difference cos it does feel like that sort of jittery feeling you can get.
.
The nausea was here again this morning, so I made the decision to cancel the group run I'd signed up for this evening, knowing full well I wasn't in the right frame of mind to be social - I find it way too overwhelming when I'm like this. it was an instant relief.
.
Finding ways to cope seem to be the right thing to do. I've worked outside all day today, with this gorgeous furry boy right by my side, and I tell you what it has done wonders. For now the #anxiety has eased, and a sense of calm has been restored. Amazing what a bit of outdoor fresh air therapy can do, right?
.
So yeah, sorry if I go quiet again and sorry if you've missed my posts (I mean you may not have even noticed 🤣) I just need a little time out to navigate these bastard #perimenopause waters.
I organised a local #perimenopause walk and talk t I organised a local #perimenopause walk and talk this morning and what a beaut of a day to pick!
.
I think it's so so important us women talk openly about the #menopause and its many accompanying symptoms. It helps us feel less alone, helps us feel 'normal', helps us feel supported, helps us feel that we're not imagining stuff. It gives a little perspective if you like.
.
And the good thing about a walk is that you're out getting exercise, you're getting a lovely boost of Vit D and feel good endorphins, and you can have a good non-pressurised chit chat about a subject that could potentially feel a bit awkward.
.
What a fab bunch of ladies you all are 😍
.
Hoping to make this a regular thing, so if you're local to #petersfield it would be great to see you one time. Plus, if that wasn't enough to tempt you, I'll always make sure there's a cuppa and cake stop en route 😜
Push yourself but know yourself 💪😇 . I'm all Push yourself but know yourself 💪😇
.
I'm all for a bit of self challenge - the inner cheerleader egging you on, pushing you that little bit further, getting you up that hill. But I also know how so very important it is to know your limits at any given moment.
.
I harp on about this a lot, I know, but I am such a big believer in intuitive movement, and think it's often something many people overlook. Don't get me wrong, it don't come easy this listening to your body thing. It's taken me bloody ages. But it's worth spending time on.
.
After missing just 1 nights worth of #HRT gel the physical and mental fatigue has hit me hard. Yesterday I struggled to focus on anything, couldn't get motivated, and was in bed by 9.30 I was that wiped out. And today, whilst it's noticeably improved, the tiredness is still hanging on round the edges.
.
I like to go for a #run with the dog on a Wednesday morning, which I still did, but I paid close attention to what my body was telling me today even more so. When my breath got ragged, I stopped and walked (pretty sure that's a leftover symptom from covid 🙄) When I felt slightly faint and dizzy, I stopped and walked. When it got a bit much, I stopped and walked. There is zero shame in stopping and walking - let's remember that!
.
My body was telling me to take it easy. So I did. It's that simple.
Feeling a bit wobbly today 😵‍💫 . Forgot to Feeling a bit wobbly today 😵‍💫
.
Forgot to rub in my #oestrogel a couple of nights ago. Well, I say 'forgot' the truth of it is it was late, I was tired, and I couldn't be arsed.
.
Paying for it today.
.
I didn't think missing it for one night would make that much of a difference. Turns out it does.
.
Mentally and emotionally I'm all over the shop today. All those horrible neggy #perimenopause feelings have hit me hard. That yucky washing machine, tied in knots tummy. The feeling on edge as though something bad is going to happen. An immense sense of overwhelm, even though I really haven't got much on today (which thank goodness is a good thing!). The overthinking and over analysing. The paranoia. The feeling that I'm failing at work, relationships, life, exercise, everything. And the urge to run away from it and hide is strong, so so strong.
.
It highlighted even more so, just how scary it must be for those women who can't get their hands on any of the gel at the mo. To literally have it taken out of their control and to have all of their symptoms come flooding back. Mine was my own doing. For many, they've had no choice 😔
.
It's an eye opener. And a bloody good reminder as to why I need this #hrt Cos without it, I'm a fucking mess. I deffo won't be making that mistake again!
.
So glad I recognise and know what this is though. That I can go easy on myself today. Be kind to myself. Allow myself to work through it. To know that tomorrow will be different. That I'll be back on track. Plan for the day therefore is to do a bit of strength and stretching while blasting out my fave tunes, do a daily @calm meditation, and to catch up on last night's @davinamccall #menopause programme. Did any of you see it?
Welcome back me 😀 . I was speaking to a friend Welcome back me 😀
.
I was speaking to a friend yesterday and she asked me a very simple question, "and how are you?" I paused for a moment. It was lovely that she'd asked, but not gonna lie it threw me a bit.
.
I quickly racked my brain trying to think what could be wrong with me, why she possibly felt the need to ask me.
.
And then it clicked.
.
The HRT is definitely working.
.
Because, you see, I'd forgotten. I'd forgotten about all those hideous symptoms- the anxiety, the flitty sicky feeling in my tummy, the light headedness, the twitching, the paranoia, the bloating. All of it gone. And sometimes you don't actually realise it's gone until someone asks you how you are and you realise that actually yeah, I'm bloody brilliant.
.
#hrt ... it's not for every woman I know, but for me it has worked. It has literally bought me back to the woman I truly am. And for that I am grateful.
.
Isn't it interesting as well, that we feel we should only be asked how we are if there is something noticeably wrong with us. Or maybe it's just me 🤷‍♀️ When really, checking in with each other, asking how our friends and family are should just be a given. Because really, we don't actually know what goes on behind closed doors do we? No one knows what someone else is going through, what they're feeling, how they truly are, unless we ask. And sometimes that simple question, "how are you?" could be exactly the one thing someone needs to hear that day.
.
So do it. Check in on someone today. Ask how they are. #howareyou #areyouok
