Never stop inspiring them ✨️ It takes a lot Never stop inspiring them ✨️ It takes a lot to #impress my daughter these days. I'm pretty much the very definition of embarrassment at the moment - I wear the wrong things, say the wrong things, I don't speak teen, and I'm certainly not cool. But I try my absolute hardest to keep inspiring her and one of the ways I know I can keep doing that is to show her I'm not afraid to do the things that scare the crap out of me - to show her that if I can do it, she can do it. Last weekend this got flipped around, when parents were invited to join in with her dramatic arts group she goes to. 3 hours of singing, dancing, and acting. Honestly, my worst nightmare 😫 I gave up dance, drama, and music at school as soon as I possibly could. I bloody hated them all. I didn't like the attention, I didn't like the fear it induced, and I hated the thought of tonnes of faces all looking at me. Makes me shudder even now. And not gonna lie, taking part in this at the weekend triggered all those nerve racking emotions. I was proper 💩 myself. But I did it. I danced (badly and out of time) to Voulez Vous, I acted (while stammering and shaking, but arguably with gusto) to a room full of kids and adults, and I sang (loudly and proudly, albeit a bit out of tune and karaoke shouty) to We Built This City. Not sure I can say I enjoyed it, but I did it. And I think I even managed to impress my daughter... well just a teeny bit! As they get older, it does get harder to impress and #inspire them, but there are ways, you've just got too look for them and take the opportunities when you can. #personalgrowth #selfconfidence #keepinspiring #yougotthis

Did any one else hear @davinamccall on @bbcradio2 Did any one else hear @davinamccall on @bbcradio2 this morning? She was talking about her new book 'Menopausing' and her own experience of going through the start of her #perimenopause journey and it really struck a chord with me. I'm on a fairly even keel with it at the mo. The HRT I'm on is doing what I'd like it to do (not a complete cure all for sure, but it's sorted me out so that I can think more clearly and have the oomph to start looking after myself a bit better). One thing Davina spoke about was about how often we don't realise that it's the perimenopause kicking in especially when it comes to things like #anxiety. She mentioned a story of how she gradually started to be unable to do things like drive the car at night, and so suddenly you're dependent on others, and your world starts to shrink. And it proper hit home for me. Because I'm the same, I've developed these little anxieties that I've built up to be big ones and it's seen my world and capabilities shrink. I don't/won't drive at night, I don't/won't fill the car up with petrol, I don't/won't use the phone if I can avoid it, I don't/won't go in certain shops. It sounds ridiculous, I'm a grown ass women FFS but just like Davina that was how it started for me too. Little chippings away at my personality, loss of confidence, fear mongering, a shadow of my former self. With hindsight and HRT I can see this now. And I'm working on it. I'm coming back and my world is slowly expanding again. Does any of this sound familiar to you too?

Like many women, I suffer from outbreaks of hormon Like many women, I suffer from outbreaks of hormonal #acne at certain points during my cycle. The spots tend to emerge in the few days leading up to the start of my period, and mainly occur around my chin and jawline. However, now that I’m in the #perimenopause stage of my life, I’ve noticed changes to the type of hormonal acne I get. The spots are now more cyst-like; larger, deeper under the skin, and much more painful; and they have now spread to my neck, hairline and cheeks too. Plus, my pores are noticeably larger, and larger pores means more space for dirt to collect and for bacteria to breed, which of course means more spots. It has become an endless vicious cycle. The changes and imbalances in hormone levels that happen during the lead up to #menopause impacts the skin in a variety of ways. Collagen levels decrease resulting in wrinkles, sagging, and a dull complexion, and our skin can also become drier, more sensitive, and more acne prone.
