There are perks to sometimes having a bit of a shi There are perks to sometimes having a bit of a shitty run... it's ALWAYS followed by an absolute belter and today's was bloody GORGEOUS 😍
.
.
#running around the hangers is my fave, yes there are tonnes of hills but it is so so worth it for the views (see stories) and best of all... the technical downhills. I bloody loves it!!!!
.
.
Love this smiley bunch of @runnyhoneys so much ❀
It wasΒ my 5 year runiversary yesterday. 5 whole y It wasΒ my 5 year runiversary yesterday. 5 whole years to the day that I rocked up to a running group with a handbag and absolutely no idea whether I'd be able to do it.
.
.
Turns out I could and 5 years on I still can.... well sometimes. You see #running is one of them things that has its ups and downs (quite literally!) and sometimes you completely smash it and other times it completely smashes you.
.
.
I'd like to tell you that when I headed out for a group run (rule of 6 compliant obvs) last night I felt full of the joys of spring about the fact it was my running anniversary. But I didn't. I blame it partly on the fucking #perimenopause and partly on the pandemic if I'm being completely honest - I think it's dug up some demons I thought were buried a lot deeper than they are.
.
.
And so very quickly rather than celebrating my success I really annoyingly fell into the trap of comparing myself to the other runners who I absolutely love to pieces and are all awesome and lovely. But I'm slower, larger and just generally a bit shitter than them. And normally I don't notice these things.
.
.
But every now and again I get like this. Where I wanna just chuck it all in. Where I think I'm not good enough. That maybe I should bin off group runs and just do it on my own.
.
.
And then I remind myself that this horrible neggy feeling comes in waves. And that of course I'm not like them, cos I'm me and that actually, 'me' is pretty awesome too.
Negativity creeping in. Heavy achy legs. Knackered Negativity creeping in. Heavy achy legs. Knackered. Immense sense of can't be arsed. I can feel the hormone hurricane brewing. #perimenopause
I know I go on about my dog a LOT but look at him I know I go on about my dog a LOT but look at him 😍 #dogmum
Sunshine I'm ready for ya.... 20 minutes later, fr Sunshine I'm ready for ya.... 20 minutes later, freezing my tits off. Who was I kidding putting shorts and a vest top on in March πŸ™ˆπŸ€£ reckon it might be a day of multiple wardrobe changes! #britishproblems
6 weeks ago I couldn't do a press up. Not even a h 6 weeks ago I couldn't do a press up. Not even a half arsed lady one. My upper body strength is literally pathetic. Always has been.
.
.
I've never been able to do #pressups properly, can't do pull ups, and at school I could never get the hang of climbing up the ropes - I was always the kid at the bottom gazing up in awe at my classmates who'd shimmied up with ease. I was so jel.
.
.
But if there's ever a free space on a tug-of-war team I am totally your girl - I might not be able to support my own body weight but I've got a badass pull on me πŸ’ͺ I know the muscles are there, I know my arms have got it in me, I just needed to know how to train them.
.
.
Step in the lovely and oh so knowledgeable @corpaofitness who sent me her 6 weeks to better press ups challenge which I have stuck to religiously, actually did as I was told, and I am not even kidding when I say the progress has been unreal!
.
.
I'll share some vids on my stories in a bit, but basically I can now do 3 sets of 5 'proper' press ups, I mean granted there's a lot of huffing and puffing and there are deffo areas of improvement, but my god I am doing it for the first time EVER in my life 🌟🌟 And it feels bloody amazing!
.
.
Things like this don't come quickly, you have to slowly build up, and most importantly stick with it and not get disheartened that it's not happening as quick as you'd like. I would never ever have thought that the strength of my wrists (or rather the lack of) would play a part, but it so does. Clearly I don't use my wrists enough (steady!) but after all the wrist strengthening exercises in the plan they are basically my scaffolding and have helped me reach the point I'm at today.
.
.
@corpaofitness is absolutely lovely so please check out her page, she also does a fab podcast which covers a lot of subjects us women get our knickers in a twist about - I listen to them when I'm doing the housework.
.
.
Even though the 6 weeks is now up, I want to carry on training in this way, so I can improve my form, and hopefully increase the number of press ups I can do in one go. But for now I'm just gonna sit here and feel super proud of myself for setting my mind to something and smashing it.
