Easy Ways to Boost Your Concentration

If you constantly find yourself zoning out and getting distracted by the tiniest of details, it’s time to boost your concentration and really get things done! There are many easy and effective ways that can help improve your focus and improve your productivity.

Here are some that are proven to be the most effective!

Choose a Perfect Place

If you need to get a lot of work done, you must choose a perfect place to conduct your work. Libraries, study lounges and private offices with doors are your best choice, because they are quiet and contain very little distractions. You should also avoid working or studying in bed. It’s very tempting to just dive among your sheets, but this will send “sleep” signals to your brain and you’ll soon start feeling sluggish and tired. Instead, sit at your desk, straighten your back and tackle your work!

Avoid Multitasking

Multitasking is another tempting thing to do, especially if you’re working on a deadline, but it’s actually quite bad for your focus. When multitasking, you’re constantly parting your attention which results in harder concentration, more mistakes and bad performance.

Get Some Fresh Air

Your brain needs a lot of oxygen in order to stay in top shape. So, get out for a walk and take deep breaths. Once you oxygenate your brain, it will be much easier to retain focus, even if you’re working on some really hard and boring tasks.

Try Meditation

One of the best (although not the easiest) ways to master concentration is through meditation. Actually, focusing is one of the elemental parts of meditation, and once you master it, you’ll be able to achieve Zen. So, try to start your day with 10 minutes of meditation, especially if you know you have a hard day ahead.

Play Some Music

Music has various effects on the human brain, one of them being the ability to focus and relax. While some people find listening to any kind of music distracting, others find it quite concentration-boosting. If you’re one of the latter people, make sure to have your quality headphones with you at all times. They will also cancel outside noise, remove distractions and even make your work more fun. So, play your music of choice and let yourself drift away from the world and dive into your work! Experts recommend classical, new age and chill out music with little word and flowing melodies.

Find Your Purpose

If you think the task you’ve been given is useless and irrelevant, you’ll never be able to achieve good concentration. However, if you find meaning in it or manage to convince yourself what you’re doing is important for your professional or private life, you’ll feel more motivated to focus and give your best.

Improve Your Diet

Working on an empty stomach will cause your sugar levels to drop, causing sluggishness and inability to focus. So, don’t skip meals, always have some healthy brain foods with you and drink plenty of water to prevent glucose spikes and drips and improve concentration. On the other hand, overeating will make you feel sleepy and nauseated. So, the key is in small and light meals that are full of protein and healthy fats that will feed your brain without making you feel uncomfortable.

Get Regular Exercise

The ability to achieve focus is directly connected with our physical state. If you’re unhealthy, tired and in bad shape, you’ll find it much more difficult to concentrate, especially if you have a demanding physical task at hand. In order to boost focus, you must improve your fitness. Exercising will not only improve your endurance and strength, but also replenish your brain with oxygen and delay the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

Get Some Rest

Rest is just as important for your concentration as physical activity. If you want to focus, you have to be calm which is almost impossible to achieve when your brain is scattered, tired and sleepy. Make sure to get enough good, uninterrupted sleep and be consistent. Go to sleep and wake up at regular times (don’t oversleep even at weekends) to create a habit and develop a healthy sleep cycle.

If you adopt these habits, you’ll instantly notice how easy it is to tackle tasks and stay focused on your work, reading or studying. And, as your focus improves, you’ll be more productive and have more free time to spend on your family, friends and hobbies.
