How To Get Back Into Fitness After A Break

Fitness is a lifelong journey, but that doesn’t mean that you have to keep on working out no matter what life happens to throw at you. Sometimes, you will be just too busy with work to train, or family obligations will prevent you from getting to your workout, no matter how beneficial exercise is to your physical and mental health. Maybe you’ve been injured or have been ill, and haven’t been able to work out for a while. Or perhaps there’s been a global pandemic that has made it hard to get outside and keep up your fitness routine.

You can work out at home, or find ways to adapt your routine around an injury or a demanding schedule, but working out like this isn’t as effective as your regular sessions at the gym or with a local running group. Here is how you can get back to some training after a long break away from fitness.

Find Your Fitness Motivation

Some people work out just because they want to and they don’t need any extra external motivation to push them towards their fitness goals. You might have once been one of these people before you had to take a break from your fitness routine, but taking a long hiatus can quickly dampen your enthusiasm for fitness. This is why you might need an external source of motivation so that you can get back to training with a spring in your step and some determination.

Luckily, nowadays you can find some real motivation from almost anywhere around you. It could be your reflection in the mirror reminding you that you need to get in shape, one of the many fitness influencers on Instagram, or your kids who expect you to be able to pick them up and play with them. Motivation can be found just about anywhere. Be sure to use the motivation to write down your goals and get to work.

Ease Yourself Into Your Workout Routine

No matter how passionate you feel about your fitness journey, you should be careful not to overdo it during your first few weeks back in training. This is when most people are the most eager to get back to their previous routine, but if you push yourself too hard too soon, you will only end up regressing and you might end up injuring yourself. To stop this from happening, take things slowly, look into selective androgen receptor modulators to help you rebuild muscle, and cool down properly to ease muscle soreness and pain, so you can manage your recovery properly.

Don’t just throw yourself into a packed workout schedule straight away. Instead, only do a couple of workouts for the first week, and then add a training session each following week until you reach your target workload. This process needs to be something that you can manage for the long term, so don’t worry if you can’t fit as many training sessions into your routine as you used to be able to.

Use Supplements To Push Through The Workouts

It is important that you work on your nutrition in order to help your fitness to make a comeback, but it is also important you are able to get through those first few weeks when your training sessions are the most challenging. This is the stage when people abandon their fitness journeys, as they just don’t have the energy to keep going. This is why you should use supplements for sustained energy expenditure.

To maximise your performance when you work out, think about adding a pre-workout supplement to your routine. Take it before your workout to get the boost of energy that you need to get through the session. Supplementing pre-workout is even more important if you prefer to work out early in the morning, or in the evening after work when you’re already feeling tired.

Take Fitness Outside

The gym is the best place to build your body, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only option for getting fit. In fact, there are a lot of ways that you can maximise your performance without having to hit the gym. Instead, you could use an outdoor fitness park.

Exercising out in the fresh air can be a great way to get motivated, make you feel more positive, and is a great way to stay consistent with your routine. When you’re getting back to fitness, take some of your first few workouts outside to help you to fall back in love with working out.
