Natural Remedies For Hangovers: Essential Oils

Overindulged? Had a few too many? Suffering the dreaded hangover today?!

There are a few things that contribute to a hangover. Of course prevention is always better than cure. But, for those times when you just need the extra help, essential oils are here for you.

Primarily, a hangover is the body’s attempt to process the alcohol – a toxin it feels like it needs to remove. Additionally, they are often caused by the dehydration that comes from a combination of the diuretic effect of alcohol and the liver working hard to flush the alcohol out of the body.

Hangover symptoms can include dehydration, nausea, general sluggishness, and headaches. Thankfully, there are some fantastic natural ways to treat your hangover, among which are essential oils and aromatherapy.

Essential oils have a diverse number of effects on our bodies and minds. There are many possible ways to incorporate them into your own personal hangover cures. Citrus oils can help you find energy while herbal oils will promote a sense of calm. Essential oils can have a relaxing, calming effect on the body. Some oils can be used to increase energy, ease headaches and improve your mood with their uplifting qualities.

Here are my top 4 suggestions for Essential Oils to use too help you recover from your night faster.

Ginger

Ginger has long been known for its anti-nausea properties, so it is a perfect addition for hangovers. You could put one drop into a glass of cold or hot water and drink, or simply inhale this amazingly aromatic oil. You can also apply a drop of ginger to each wrist or to the soles of the feet.

Lemon

Lemon can also help with nausea. Simply place a drop into the palm of your hands and inhale deeply for a few minutes. I once had an operation and was really nauseous when I came out of recovering and I remember the nurse giving me lemon slices to smell! I have continued to use lemon for nausea ever since.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil can help with your hangover headache. It’s cooling effect and anti-inflammatory properties help with any type of headache. Place a drop in the palm of your hands and inhale deeply or diffuse. Also, place a drop to each temple and to the base of your neck on your hairline.

Peppermint can also help settle down a nauseous tummy, so use in conjunction with ginger and lemon to help with tummy upsets.

Lavender

Lavender is a calming oil, and in this case, is perfect for a hangover. It can help to settle you down or get some much-needed rest and for the quality of your sleep to be better. Place a drop on each wrist or the soles of the feet, or diffuse in a diffuser.

Nothing beats moderation, so when drinking, please drink responsibly.

Thank you for stopping by, you are so appreciated.
