Spring/Summer Fashion Trends To Expect In 2020

It’s a new decade and this year’s spring and summer fashion trends seem to carry a bit of extra energy. While we may be well into the winter months here, the 2020 spring and summer fashion trends already have us looking forward to the upcoming seasons. We have already seen brighter colours, more defined silhouettes, and playful fabrics on the runway and we are ready to partake in some of these 2020 trends ourselves.

Puffed Sleeves

Puffed sleeves made their appearance in 2019, and we will see them continued well into 2020 with spring and summer fashion. But this year, we will see some puff around the shoulder and then pieces with a puff that follows the length of your arm. This year is really when you can find your optimal amount of puff sleeve.

Neon Colours

We have been no stranger to neon over the past few years, but fashion trends for 2020 have amped up the neon colors. Think highlighter colors, from power suits to gowns and dresses in neon pink, orange, blue, green, and yellow. Among the top designers, Versace’s new collection for women features a lot of bright pieces ranging from jumpsuits to suits. This is one of those trends that if you want to try, it is worth going all in for. Pair it with your favorite sleek hairstyle and shoe and rock the neon colors.

Bra Tops

Crop tops have gotten even shorted with the 2020 bra top trend. With all the high-waisted options, the bra top really makes a standout appearance in crochet designs to other bikini dressings. Bra tops were seen on the runways of Dior, Fendi and Loewe for 2020.

Wrapped Ankles

This is the year for the wrapped ankle, both in terms of the sandal straps wrapping around trousers and more of those wrapped ankle shoes in general. We saw them on the Toga and the JW Anderson runways. We also saw shoes with chain anklets such as those by Bottega Veneta.

Metallic/Coloured Leather

Leather has been a key fabric for a number of years, but for 2020 designers have played with metallic and colored leathers. What was once a traditional fall and winter fabric has made its way into spring and summer fashion with playful colors, metallic and some different cuts. Metallics specifically were all over the SS20 catwalk, and we saw just how you can really play up a classic or muted look with a metallic leather piece.

Sheer Layers

Sheer layers are a playful way to add dimension and texture to your looks. We saw sheer layers at House of Holland and Richard Malone, adding sheer tops over vests and even full sheer looks. For an entry piece to the sheer layer trend, try a sheer top that you can layer over a bra top or crop that makes you feel confident, comfortable and fashionable.

Crochet

Crochet bra tops, dresses, and separates make a statement and add a bit of texture for this year’s fashion. It is a great trend to opt for during those days to the beach and for your casual day or night look. Try a neutral crochet top or dress and slowly add a couple fun and colorful pieces to your wardrobe.

Polka Dots

The polka dot trend has been around for a while, but we are now seeing revamped styles with different fabrics, combinations, colors, and takes on dots. We saw enlarged polka-dot prints and sheer fitted designs at Carolina Herrera for this year.

Which 2020 trend are you anticipating the most?
