Vitl DNA Nutrition Tests: What’s The Deal?

DNA tests are the in thing at the moment. From finding out who your long lost relatives are to discovering some random gene that’s the answer to your strange personality traits, those strands of genetic code literally have the answer to everything. You may have already hard me bleating on about how great I think the DNA nutrition tests from Vitl are, but I just love them so much that I’m gonna go on about it again. And it’s partly down to the fact that they are offering such an impressive Black Friday deal that I don’t want you lot to miss out on!

So before I go into what the nutrition test will tell you, let me tell you more about this deal. Usually these tests will set you back £119 (it’s the going rate for this kind of thing), but during their special Black Friday promotion it has a whopping 40% off taking the final sale price down to £69. This much of a discount only happens at this time of year, so it’s proper exclusive bargainous stuff. And fear ye not because like pretty much all other retailers, Black Friday isn’t just this Friday. Vitl are giving you 40% off their DNA nutrition tests from now until the 2nd of December. That’s bloody good value (as you’ll see in a sec) and makes it a much more affordable option if you’re considering buying these as Christmas gifts.

I’ve done the test myself and after seeing how it worked and seeing the results I got from it my husband was desperate to get in on the action and so I bought it as a gift for him last Christmas. It’s such a unique gift idea, in part because people are genuinely fascinated by the information they get from it, but also I love it because you’re almost guaranteed that no one else will have thought to buy them it too.

Right then, that’s all the amazing deal stuff out of the way, lets see what the actual deal is with these tests then. Because it’s all well and good forking out your hard earned cash on something like this, but what’s it actually gonna do for you?

What Will A DNA Nutrition Test Tell Me?

Loads that’s what! Vitl’s DNA nutrition tests look at 46 different traits in your DNA, which are then broken down into the following categories:

  • Skincare
  • Weight Management
  • Digestion
  • Energy Levels
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Physical Performance
  • Immunity
  • Fertility
  • Pregnancy
  • Post-Natal
  • Hair
  • Intolerances
  • Sleep
  • Sugar Consumption

As you can see that’s a LOT of incredibly useful information to take on board. But don’t worry, there’s no waffley, difficult, technical words, it is 100% explained in layman’s terms.

Firstly it will establish whether your traits are typical (as in perfectly normal, no real action required), or impactful (as in you may have noticed yourself struggling a little in this area and perhaps you could try doing something about it to help). So for example, in my own test results I have learnt that I am highly likely to have low levels of Vitamin B6. This means that I may notice my hair is weak, thin, falls out easily (Yep!), and that my fertility levels are low and that I may struggle to conceive (Yep! If only I’d known this when we were trying to conceive… would have saved a lot of heart ache and hospital tests. All good now though, I have 2 beautiful kids 🙂 ). It has also told me that I am highly likely to have low levels of Vitamin B12, which is also related to hair (jeeez no wonder my hair is so crap!) and it is also linked to energy levels (something I also struggle with, particular at certain times of the month – ya hear me girls?).

What Now? Surely We Can’t Change Our DNA?

Deep down I knew these things already. Well, I say that… I know I have bad hair and I know my energy levels are slightly out of whack, but without seeing these results I guess it wasn’t enough for me to do anything about it. A DNA nutrition test will offer you an explanation to things you may have just been putting up with. And the fact of the matter is, you shouldn’t need to put up with it. I now know that I should be taking vitamins, because clearly I’m not getting everything I need from my diet.

It was also really interesting to compare my results with my husband’s. And I love that I can blame things like twitching and moving around in my sleep a ridiculous amount and my out of hand sweet tooth on my genes. Hey we all need those kind of excuses don’t we. Likewise, I should perhaps cut him some more slack for being so forgetful and for stinking out the toilet of a morning! Sorry that’s probably way too much info… but I did warn you these tests were thorough 😉

One thing that did stand out for me was the fact that I am highly likely to have a slow metabolic rate (dammit!), which basically means I’ve got to work a whole lot harder to keep weight off (double dammit!!) and I probably shouldn’t be scoffing biscuits at the rate I do (triple dammit!!!). The advice that comes with this however, is to do regular exercise, in particular strength based exercise, to keep the metabolism alert and to give it a boost. Since finding this out, I have made an effort to include strength training in the form of kettlebells alongside running and walking the dog and there is no question that this keeps my weight on track and also helps keep stress levels down, which also impacts metabolism rate.

I can’t even begin to go into all the information these tests give you. And of course every single one of us will have our own set of unique results. But what I can tell you is that in my honest opinion it is really worthwhile finding out this information about yourself, simply to help you go about living your life in the best way possible and I guess to future proof your health too. I am hitting the edge of the perimenopause and am pretty sure I’m seeing some of the symptoms already. The knowledge I have gained from my DNA test results are going to be invaluable when it comes to helping me navigate my way through it.

A simple swab of the cheek and that’s it, in-depth info all about you that you can use for the rest of your life, and all for £69. That is a bloody bargain!
