How To Get The Best Out Of Your Workouts

Do you remember the time when you were a couch potato, when you detested even the thought of going to the gym? If you were one of those people, then you definitely know that feeling of despair when you first convinced yourself to hit the gym only because somebody said that you had to be fit. However, you might have realised the importance of fitness and health somewhere along the way, so your task shifted from simply going to the gym to getting the best out of your workouts. Yes, this is an even more important factor, as you really need to pay attention to how you’re working out and that you’re doing all the exercises that are good for you and your figure. So, if you’re still feeling a bit lazy and unmotivated to work out, this is how you can inspireyourself and get the best out of your gym experience.

Music Can Change Everything

You wouldn’t believe how much music can affect your overall performance. Listening to music means you have to pay attention to your playlist while you’re working out. First of all, you might want to choose not to take your own music to the gym, which could be a good choice as most gyms play their own active music, so you will already be working out in quite a motivational environment. However, if you do choose to play your own music, make sure you choose something that’s upbeat and that will motivate you to work out more. There is a plethora of ready-made playlists that you can play on Spotify or YouTube, or you can make your own. Stay away from sad and slow songs though as they definitely won’t help you in pumping your muscles. To find songs that keep you going throughout your workout, Myprotein created a quiz that helps you find the best song based on your workout type and music preference. They also found that Don’t Waste My Time by Krept & Konan is the best workout track overall, and No Surprises by Radiohead is the worst workout track.

Dress To Impress Yourself

Next up, let’s talk about your outfit. Even though you might think it’s not all that important, a good outfit doesn’t only motivate you to work out more but it can be quite important for your performance too. Make sure that you go with sports clothes that are made of breathable materials. Opting for high-quality sports tights, for example, will give you that mood boost to do your best at the gym while also keeping your muscles warm and enhancing your overall performance. If you opt for compression clothing, even better, as this type of clothing can help prevent injuries.

H2O To The Rescue

It’s very difficult to work out if you’re dehydrated, so it’s really important you drink plenty of fluids. If you forget to drink water during the day, you might become lethargic, which can have a great impact on your performance and athletic ability. If you know that you will be working out during the day, make sure to you have your water bottle by your side so that you don’t forget to stay hydrated. Also, don’t forget to drink water after your workout as well. If you want to go the extra mile, you might want to try pure coconut water, as not only will it boost your hydration but it also contains a small amount of electrolytes as well.

Don’t Skip The Warm-Up

The beginning matters a lot, as your warm-up can either make or break your entire workout. Lots of people are tempted to skip this step, but bear in mind that it’s very important you don’t. Not only does warming up reduce your risk of injury, but it gives your brain and your muscles a chance to wake up. This will definitely boost your overall performance as it will allow your body to work more efficiently.

What Comes First – The Weakest Or The Strongest Exercises?

Bear in mind that you should always start with the weakest exercises first. Also, make sure that if you have any exercises you cannot stand or you struggle to complete, you put them in the first half of the workout. The beginning of your gym session is when you have the most energy, so it would be good to finish them first. Once these exercises are out of the way, you will be free to do the ones you love.

Trying to stay motivated at the gym can sometimes be a difficult task. However, if you play your cards right, you can always have a very efficient workout session. It’s all up to you!
