You probably already know how rewarding and relaxing traveling is. And you’re right; traveling brings you new experiences, it makes you feel fulfilled and it can help you restore your energy and relieve all that pent up stress.

However, if you’re not taking good care of yourself during your traveling, it might start to take its toll on you. That is why you need to learn how to stay healthy, hydrated and well-rested so your energy levels won’t go down. In translation, you need to learn how to travel like a true wellness warrior.

Before You Go

Planning for your wellness break can be really stressful in itself, as there is so much to organise and sort out. Making sure you have the right money, checking your passport is up to date, arranging travel insurance and sorting out all the other documentation can be a right headache. Organising professional FCO Legalisation of certain documents can help and will certainly ease any worries if you have concerns about getting paperwork signed on time.

Have Your Supplements Ready

You’re probably already taking some form of daily supplements and vitamins, and you shouldn’t miss out on them while traveling. Calculate how much of them you need for your travel, pack them nicely and never miss out on them. Besides those regulars you take every day, you should have a few extra. This is because your immune system might go down during traveling because there’s a lot of extra pressure on your body and you have to be prepared. You can even start taking them a few days before your departure to help build your immune system up and be fully ready for your trip.

Get Enough Sleep

No matter how you’re traveling – by car, bus or flying – you should always remember to get enough sleep. If necessary, make frequent stops if you’re traveling by car or find suitable accommodation on the road. Also, make sure to bring a blanket and a pillow so you can get yourself comfortable. The same equipment goes for other means of traveling, so find a cosy position and get some rest.

The same rules for getting enough sleep apply to your arrival at the destination. You should have some rest days, plan your naps or simply when you’re tired go to  bed and rest. After all, it’s your holiday your rules. If you’re ignoring the fact that you need some quality sleep, you will feel drowsy and you won’t have enough energy to visit all the magnificent places you had planned. Plus, sleep deprivation can upset your stomach, and it can weaken your immune system, which only leads to less energy and potentially feeling sick.

Bring Some Healthy Snacks

It goes without saying that you will taste some amazing meals on your travels. Especially if you’re exploring a completely different culture. However, when getting there you should make sure to have some healthy snacks at hand. Pick your favourite fruits and veggies, make some small sandwiches and pack them nicely for your trip. Additionally, you can bring along some healthy energy bars, such as Luna bar, Cliff or Health Warrior chia bar and always have a tasty source of energy right in your pocket.

Move Frequently

In order for your body to stay fit and healthy, and for your mind to feel stress-free, you have to move while traveling. If you’re going by car, make sure to stretch your legs from time to time. Being cooped up in a car and driving long distances is tiring and you will easily get irritated if your legs are stiff and your back is aching.

However, if you’re traveling by plane, once the seatbelt sign is off, make sure to get up from time to time and walk around. Maybe even mingle and talk to some people, because that will put you in a good mood and you might even make some new friends. When you get to your destination, remind yourself to do some stretching and yoga each day, or do some light exercises to keep your body in shape and bring your energy levels up.

Stay Hydrated

Being constantly on the move in a car, plane or whatever means of travel you chose, can be really dehydrating. That is why it is really important to drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Always have a bottle of water by your side and try to remind yourself to drink from it frequently. You can even set up an alarm on your phone to remind you to stay hydrated. Otherwise, you will feel fatigued, tired and you simply won’t be doing your body any good.

Traveling is beautiful, but it can take its toll on your body and mind if you forget to take care of yourself. That is exactly why you should do your best to prepare healthy snacks, drink plenty of water and take those naps. Don’t let your low energy levels ruin your fun holiday. Instead, become a mighty wellness warrior on your travels.
