How To Boost Your Happiness And Wellbeing In 2019

Pharrell sings about it, everyone wants it and it is a significant part of all our lives. So, what is it? Happiness is one of the most important things that human beings strive for, and more and more people value being happy over the likes of wealthy, famous and more. In what can be quite a depressing world, it is vital to find happiness where you can. It is so vital to have happiness in your life and as human beings, we can all try and reach higher levels of happiness – it is there for the taking, we just need to do what we can to achieve it.

Working Towards Happiness

Work is where people spend most of their days, so it is very important to try and find a job and an employer that you like. Whilst sometimes this is not always achievable, there are certain measures that you can take to improve your happiness in the workplace.

For example, if you are doing a job that you don’t particularly enjoy, it might help if you are working for an organisation where your role contributes to a wider goal. Even if you don’t enjoy your job on a day to day basis, by recognising your contribution to the company’s achievements this can give a greater sense of satisfaction.

Your colleagues can have a positive impact on your happiness in the workplace. By working with similarly-minded people it can have a significant impact on whether you love or loathe going into work.

Shiny, Happy People

Being around supportive and positive people in a non-work environment can also help boost your happiness levels. A recent study by the Framingham Heart Study revealed that we are 15.3% more likely to be happier when we know another happy person directly (1st degree). The study also revealed that positive emotions tend to trickle down from the people that are the happiest all the way down to those that are less happy. Therefore, this suggests that happier people may tend to be more generous, friendlier and nicer in general.

Undertaking meditation techniques and spiritual exercises like yoga can also boost both happiness and wellbeing levels. Not only is it good for your body, it is also good for your mind and soul too.

It’s always important to ascertain what it is that will make you happy. Is it doing something you love for a living? Is it being surrounded by the people that you love? Perhaps it’s travelling the world or being financially comfortable.

If You Want To Get Ahead, Get A Pet

If you have the time and the funds for it, it is certainly worthwhile considering getting a pet. Research has revealed that people who have pets are generally happier and have greater self-esteem. The report also reveals that pet owners are generally less likely to be depressed and less likely to be lonely. Another positive impact that some pets can have on your levels of happiness and wellbeing is that they tend to need walks and activities, meaning you will exercise more. Exercising regularly has a direct correlation on happiness and overall wellbeing since it boosts endorphins, which are though to be related to your happiness levels.

Many people consider being rich and a millionaire as the goal to happiness. Whilst not everyone will become a millionaire, there is no guarantee that your life will be significantly better whether you are a millionaire or not.

Mindfulness

Practising mindfulness can certainly boost both your wellbeing as well as your general happiness. It is thought that mindfulness can make you feel calmer, and helps encourage you to adopt a more positive and holistic approach to your life. There are lots of books and apps that you can download to help you practice mindfulness every day.

There are so many things that you can do to boost your happiness levels. Whether this is surrounding yourself with the people that you love and that love you, or even getting a pet! Happiness is always achievable, you just need to identify what makes you happy and work towards your happiness goal.
